Big Band Concert raises funds for Cotswold Friends
On the 13th July, the enchanting sounds of a 16-piece band filled the celebrated Cirencester Parish Church, captivating an enthusiastic audience with their rendition of classic big band and swing numbers, many with a delightful Glenn Miller flavour. This musical feast, organised by the Worshipful Master of Foster Mark Lodge and supported by the William Bathurst Lodge of Mark Master Masons, was organised to support our mission at Cotswold Friends.
We are dedicated to combating loneliness and isolation, especially among the elderly, and supporting independent living. We were deeply touched to learn that all proceeds from the concert were donated to our charity. During a well-earned intermission, Brian Gargett, the Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Province of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, highlighted the significant impact of our work, revealing that they had raised over £10,000 for us in less than a year. Our dedicated fundraiser, Karen Saffarian, spoke movingly about our work in the community and expressed heartfelt thanks to the generosity of the Mark Master Masons and the supportive audience of over 100 people.
Karen later wrote, “Your overwhelming support and desire to continue to help us fund our services is very touching. We are very grateful indeed. Also, may I thank you all for a lovely evening at The John’s Baptist Church. The Big Metz Band was a great choice of music so thank you James for organising it all. The presence of a bar was a bonus for guests, so thank you for all the hard work that went into setting that up.”
The Metz Big Band, based in the county and a staple at many masonic fundraising events, played with their characteristic excellence. With Robert Woodman, Past Master of Perseverance Lodge, on bass sax, the band ensured everyone was truly “In the Mood.” We extend our deepest gratitude to the Mark Masons for their unwavering support and to everyone who contributed to this memorable evening.
