Cotswold Friends January 2025 Round-up

In January 2025, we continued our mission to combat loneliness and support independent living among older and vulnerable residents in the Cotswolds.
Recognising the challenges posed by rising living costs, Cotswold Friends provided valuable information on available support. On January 6th we shared resources to assist residents in managing expenses, including guidance on energy bills and access to pension credits.
Our Community Activities Programme continued to offer a variety of local groups aimed at increasing community engagement and fostering new friendships. Activities such as Lunch Clubs, Men in Sheds, and Knit and Natter provided participants with opportunities to connect and combat isolation.
Our volunteer led Community Transport Service remained a vital resource, facilitating over 1,300 passenger journeys in January. This service ensured that members could attend healthcare appointments, run essential errands, and participate in social activities, thereby maintaining their independence and well-being.
We had 6 new volunteers start their roles with us in January and a further 6 started the process with us. It is lovely to see so many new volunteers in the first month of the year who will support us in our vital community work. January was also a chance for us to nominate a few of our volunteers for the Go Gloucestershire Volunteer Awards, more on that closer to the awards night.
In January we also partnered with Cotswold District Council on their Strengthening Communities events, these will be run all over the Cotswolds so keep an eye out for news on the next event in your area.
The Cotswold Friends staff team changed a little in January with the retirement of our long-standing Support Services Manager Bridget, Jess O’Hara is now heading up the team supported by Harriet and Charlotte.
Overall, January 2025 was a month of impactful initiatives and continued dedication by Cotswold Friends to enhance the quality of life for the community’s older and vulnerable residents.
